Stew for thought

Vegetable Beef Stew


 

This is defiantly a comfort food. A big pot of stew is just what's needed in this household on this cold day and to mention healthy too! Although, I tend to make way too much. That's ok though because we will eat it for lunch tomorrow. This stew is filled with vitamins, Can it get any healthier?  And let me mention the aroma while this stew is brewing, aahhh so delightful. My house smelled so good for hours. A great meal to eat if your watching your calorie count. Only around 144 calories per cup. I believe I will be making this stew again soon. Does anyone ever make stews anymore? What are some thoughts you might have on healthy eating?

MEET KNUCKLES!

Knuckles was my pet hedgehog. My spikey little guy. I know it's an odd pet to have but I love odd and exotic pets . I found him on sale at my local pet store. Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals or night animals. He would run for hours at night in his excersice wheel. Hedgehogs are not clean animals at least not Knuckles. As you can see Knuckles did get a spa treatment once a week. He loved bubble baths! Hedgehogs have a bit of a temper though. When I would go to get him out of his cage he would roll up into a ball and make a uninique huffing noises then would jump to poke you with his quills this was his defense mechanism from anything the hedgehog is unsure of. Hedgehogs also sleep rolled up in a ball. Hedgehogs are known to foam from their mouths thinking it is creating a toxic substance to rub on it's quills to help provide protection. Usually happens when hedgehog thinks it's in danger which is usually always or after eating certain things. When Knuckles first did this I thought you werido and I did not understand what the heck he was doing so I did some research so I could understand his odd behavior. I found out it was a defense stratagy to help him blend in with his surroundings. Each quill on a hedgehog points in several different directions making for a quick poke. Hedgehogs are very easy to care for and are cute. For treats he prefered meal worms, eewww I know right! HAHAHA That was probably one thing I disliked about my pet hedgehog. Knuckles lived for 5 years, he past away on 1/1/2011. Do you or anyone you know have an exotic pet?  Please do share I'd love to hear all about it.



SARGE

SARGE

This is Sarge my chihuahua. Sarge is a boy, 7 months old and is a medium hair chihuahua that weighs 6lbs. This is his first winter. If  you have a chihuahua then you know they prefer warm weather. Sarge is wearing a blue hooded sweat shirt and a camouflaged fur hooded winter coat. I tried to get him to wear boots but he's not a fan. Of course, I get his clothes at a deal because I love a sale!! It's so funny him being out in the snow for the first time. First he sniffs around, then he starts to eat the snow. I warned him DO NOT eat the yellow snow HAHAHA!

Sarge has a character that is hilarious! He must get that from me....hehehe I would have to say he is a wonderful pet. As surprising as it sounds he doesn't bark very much and he's very playful and lovable. I've been training him to do tricks. This dog will do anything for a treat. Right now I'm in the process of teaching him what I call dancing. He's getting very good at it too!
I hold a treat in the air and tell him to dance. He then lifts up his to front paws in the air and hops around on his 2 back feet. He can even do circles. Just one trick down so far. He can do the normal sit, lay and fetch but I like unique. Next we're working on rolling over. I'm sure to come up with new tricks in the future. Can you think of any tricks to share with me?
